Gynecological malignancies (cancer of ovary, uterus, cervix) have shown an increasing trend in India, with cancer of uterus and ovary more common in urban women and cancer of cervix being more common in rural India.
Cancer of the ovary in particular is challenging cancer to deal with, due to its unique biology. Ovarian carcinoma spreads to the lining of the abdominal cavity (peritonium) and hence requires a completely different surgical approach. The surgeons at Vydehi Cancer Centre are trained in surgery for ovarian cancer (advanced Cytoreductive surgery), which is the cornerstone for good outcomes. In addition to aggressive surgery, we are equipped and trained for HIPEC (Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy), which is the use of heated chemotherapy during the surgery itself.
Cancer of the endometrium is treated first by surgery and the surgeons are trained in Laparoscopic surgery (Minimally Invasive Surgery) for the same, hence leading to early recovery, lesser pain and early discharge to home.
